Vol. 465 No. 5

Written Answers. - Staff Provisions for EU Presidency.

Michael McDowell

Question:

11 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the extra staff, consultancies and companies being employed by his Department for the duration of Ireland's forthcoming Presidency of the EU. [9949/96]

Preparations are fully under way in my Department for the Irish Presidency of the EU which begins on the 1 July. No extra staff, consultancies and/or companies have been employed for the duration of the Presidency. It is foreseeable that for certain specific events being organised in Ireland during the Presidency, conference organisers or other professional services may have to be engaged to provide, for example, translation, interpretation, catering, transport, etc., but as no firm commitments have yet been entered into I am not in a position to give any such details at this stage. I will be glad to inform the Deputy fully on this point at the end of the Presidency period.
