Written Answers. - Lough Allen Amenities.
I had the pleasure recently of re-opening Lough Allen for navigation following the completion by the Waterways Service of development works there. The facilities provided include a two-way lock at Drumshanbo, required to gain access to the lake. Mooring facilities have also been provided at a number of areas, notably Drumshanbo itself. Spencer Harbour and Cleighran More. Additional moorings were also provided downstream at Acres Lake at at Drumleague Lock. The amenities provided at Drumshanbo also include car-parking, a toilet and shower block and a general landscaped area.
The provision of further on-shore amenities would normally be a matter for the local authority, community development groups and private enterprise.

Question:140 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if he will have arrangements made to provide access to the floating jetties which have been provided on Lough Allen in view of the fact that persons who use these jetties are isolated as they are unable to reach the shoreline. The floating jetties constructed by the Waterways Service at Spencer Harbour and Cleighran More during the course of the recent development for the navigation of Lough Allen were provided primarily for refuge for vessels using the navigation. The longer-term proposals include the provision of shore access to and from these facilities and this is currently been examined in the context of the resources available and the necessity to acquire the riparian lands involved.
