Question:143 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the level of input given by music educationalists into the FORTE Committee; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10169/96]
I have already sought, and received, the findings and recommendations of FORTE, the Music Task Force, in relation to taxation and the music industry. These recommendations helped in my prebudget discussions with the Minister for Finance and led to the extension of the BES scheme to investment in the production, marketing and promotion of new artist's studio recordings and associated videos.
I expect that FORTE will present their full report to me very soon. The Deputy will appreciate, therefore, that I am not in a position to evaluate the level of input by music educationalists into FORTE's report. However, I am satisfied that the membership of FORTE comprises a cross section of people who can speak with knowledge and experience of all the diverse areas of the industry including education and I fully expect that the recommendations of the Task Force will take into account the educational measures required to assist the further development of all musical genres.
