Vol. 465 No. 6

Written Answers. - Pedestrian Crossing Regulations.

Brendan Kenneally

Question:

153 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for the Environment the regulations in force in relation to the provision of pedestrian crossings; if he intends to amend the regulations in order to make it easier for local authorities to provide such crossings; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10108/96]

The Road Traffic (Signs) Regulations, 1962 made under the Road Traffic Acts, set out the road markings and lighting associated with pedestrian crossings. Criteria for the provisions of these crossings are set out in guidelines prepared by An Foras Forbartha in 1981, and made available to local authorities. The guidelines are under examination by the National Roads Authority with a view to determining whether revisions are required.
