Vol. 465 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Bus Problems.

Helen Keogh

Question:

183 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to alleviate the problems being experienced by secondary pupils (details supplied) in Vicarstown, Portlaoise, County Laois, who travel by school bus to schools in the Athy area; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10091/96]

I understand that the difficulties to which the Deputy refers are the travelling times, schedules and carrying capacity of the vehicle used on this route.

Having investigated the matter with Bus Éireann, I am satisfied that the level of service available to these pupils is within my Department's guidelines, and that the legal carrying capacity of the vehicle used is not being exceeded.

Accordingly, I do not propose to alter the current transport arrangements.
