Vol. 465 No. 6

Written Answers. - Grant Aid.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

185 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Education if she will reconsider her decision not to grant aid a school (details supplied) in County Donegal for the provision of parking facilities and a lay-by in order to address the safety problem in this area; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10094/96]

The decision to refuse grant assistance towards the cost of providing parking facilities and a lay-by at the school referred to by the Deputy was made because the funds available this year for improvement works of this nature are fully committed. However, my Department is introducing a new grant scheme in January 1997 to cater for improvement works and it is open to the school authorities to expend this grant on these works. My Department has conveyed this option to the school authorities.
