Question:

317 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Defence the applications, if any, he has had from members of the Permanent Defence Forces for voluntary early retirement; the number and rank of these soldiers; and when a decision will be made in respect of these applications. [10279/96]

The number of applications to avail of the voluntary early retirement scheme which have been received to date is as follows:

All applications will be evaluated by a special board which will decide as soon as possible as to the applications to be approved and the applications to be refused.
