Vol. 466 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Wexford Sewerage.

Hugh Byrne

Question:

123 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the sewage problem being experienced by the people in Bridgetown, County Wexford; and the proposals, if any, he has to address this problem. [10977/96]

The Bridgetown scheme was one of two sewerage scheme proposals submitted by Wexford County Council under my Department's 1996 small schemes programme. Such schemes are approved in two tranches each year; the Ferns scheme has been approved in the first tranche and Bridgetown is due for approval later in the year.

Question:

124 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the raw sewage problem in Rosslare Harbour, County Wexford; and the plans, if any, he has to address this problem. [10979/96]

In this case, a revised preliminary report has recently been submitted to my Department by Wexford County Council and is currently under examination. However, due to the high level of existing commitments and the number of high priority schemes for which funding must be provided, it was not possible to include the proposal in the current year's work programme. I will review the position further when determining the programme for next year.

Question:

125 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment if this attention has been drawn to the difficulties being experienced by the community of Tomhaggard. County Wexford regarding sewage treatment; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that raw sewage is flowing freely into a ditch adjacent to a housing scheme and that such sewage is a health hazard; the plans, if any, he has to address this problem; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10980/96]

No proposal has been submitted to my Department by Wexford County Council for a sewerage scheme at this location.

Question:

126 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the difficulties that have arisen in the community of Fethard-on-Sea, County Wexford due to raw sewage problems; and the plans, if any, he has to address this problem. [10981/96]

It is a matter for Wexford County Council to submit proposals to remedy the problems at Fethard-on-Sea to my Department but, as yet, no such submission has been made. I understand, however, that the county council is in the process of preparing a preliminary report.
