Vol. 466 No. 1

Written Answers. - Louth Coastal Erosion.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

245 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for the Marine the current position regarding an application by Louth County Council to his Department for financial assistance to enable it to carry out a detailed study of the coastal erosion problem on the County Louth coast; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10992/96]

An application has been received from Louth County Council in relation to erosion problems in that county. As the Deputy may be aware, a major project due to commence this summer has been deferred. The funds earmarked for that project will be allocated to alternative works. In that regard, my officials are re-examining the applications from coastal local authorities, including Louth County Council. I hope to have a revised programme of protection works for 1996 finalised with in the next couple of weeks.
