Vol. 466 No. 1

Written Answers. - Blanchardstown (Dublin) Garda Station.

Brian Lenihan

Question:

64 Mr. Lenihan asked the Minister for Finance whether the building in which it is proposed to develop a Garda station at Blanchardstown, Dublin 15, will be shared with accommodation for the Department of Social Welfare. [11018/96]

The new Garda station building at Blanchardstown will not accommodate any State service other than the gardaí.

When seeking a site for a new Garda station at Blanchardstown the Office of Public Works was also requested to obtain a site for a new social welfare local office. A sketch plan showing how the site would be divided between the two services was approved by both the Garda authorities and the Department of Social Welfare before agreement to purchase the site. The Office of Public Works has subsequently received a request from the Garda that the entire site be reserved for the Garda station alone. The Office of Public Works architects have recommended that this request be granted.
