Vol. 466 No. 1

Written Answers. - North-East Population Projections.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

79 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Health the population projections for the North Eastern Health Board and for each county in that area for each of the years 2001 and 2011. [10727/96]

Limerick East): The official population projections are produced by the Central Statistics Office but they refer only to national estimates by age group and sex. Projections at sub-national levels are not included due principally to the difficulties in measuring and forecasting inter-county migration. A set of unofficial regional population projections was, however, commissioned by the Department as part of a recent report by the National Council for the Elderly on the Health and Social Care Implications of Population Ageing in Ireland, 1991-2011. The availability of this information for the counties of the NorthEastern Health Board is being followed up and will be forwarded to the Deputy as soon as possible.
