Vol. 466 No. 1

Written Answers. - Sperm Bank Provision.

Máirín Quill

Question:

96 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Health the progress, if any, made regarding the provision of a sperm bank in Ireland since Deputy Máirín Quill first brought this matter to his notice in January 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11101/96]

Limerick East): In January I received a number of representations in relation to the possible provision of sperm bank facilities for patients receiving medical treatment which may affect their subsequent fertility. Arising from this, my Department is carrying out a detailed examination of the matter and has had discussions with relevant experts in the area. I do not expect that I will be in a position to take a decision on this matter in the near future.
