Vol. 466 No. 5

Written Answers. - Jobstart Scheme Funding.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

130 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the amount of funding that has been voted in respect of the jobstart scheme in 1996: the number of places this level of funding will provide in the scheme in 1996: and whether this scheme will be continued in 1997. [11880/96]

Jobstart is a new scheme which I launched last week. My Department is providing £1 million to FÁS for the programme in 1996 and a target of between 1,200 and 1,500 places has been set for the programme this year. When the programme is fully operational, it will provide 5,000 opportunities annually, on an ongoing basis, for long-term unemployed people.
