Vol. 466 No. 6

Written Answers. - OPW Print Unit.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

34 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, he has for the Office of Public Works Print Unit in Bishop Street, Dublin 2; and the arrangements, if any, he has in respect of established and non-established civil servants. [11952/96]

The demand from Departments for the service provided by the Office of Public works printing section, Bishop's Street has fallen considerably in the past few years. Most of its equipment is now outdated. The accommodation occupied by the section is required urgently for the National Archives which already occupies much of the Bishop's Street premises. As the cost of re-equipping and relocating the section would be prohibitive the Commissioners intend to discontinue the printing service. The staff affected will be redeployed either within the Office or to other Departments. Discussions are taking place with the unions involved in this regard.
