Vol. 466 No. 7

Written Answers. - Dublin Criminal Activity.

Ivor Callely

Question:

143 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the general public want tough measures introduced to curtail the behaviour of troublemakers and criminals, particularly in the Dublin area; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12212/96]

The Garda have an extensive range of powers available to them under the criminal law to deal with criminal activity.

I am, of course, prepared to examine any proposals that may be made to strengthen the law. As the Deputy will be aware, I have introduced various legislative measures to that effect. If the Deputy has new and specific reforming measures in mind, I will examine them.
