Vol. 466 No. 8

Written Answers. - Tree Planting.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

99 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment the plans, if any, he has to make it a statutory requirement of all local authorities to include areas for tree planting when preparing their development plans, similar to the way that other amenities are automatically considered. [12407/96]

I have no plans at present to amend the Local Government (Planning and Development) Acts to oblige planning authorities to specify areas for tree planting in the preparation of their development plans. However, guidelines on land use policy in relation to forestry development are being prepared in my Department at present and it is hoped to issue these in draft form in the autumn.
