Vol. 467 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Property Proposals.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

219 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Education whether the land owned by her Department at Scholarstown Road, Knocklyon, Dublin 16, is being considered as a location for a Gaelscoil; if so, when a decision will be made in relation to this matter; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Question:

241 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the public meeting held recently in Knocklyon, Dublin 16, that condemned her decision to sell-off the 11 acre site required for a post-primary school; and if she will agree to meet with a delegation from that meeting along with local politicians in advance of proceeding further. [12770/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 219 and 241 together.

An application for sanction to establish a Gaelscoil in the Knocklyon area is under examination in my Department at present. Given that the proposed school has not yet been sanctioned, it would be premature at present to consider a longer-term location for the school.

I do not propose at this stage to take any action on the disposal of the Department's site at Scholarstown Road. I appreciate that there is strong local feeling in relation to the future of this site. However, in the circumstances, I do not consider that any useful purpose would be served by my meeting a deputation in regard to the issue.
