Question:

235 Mr. D. Wallace asked the Minister for Education the number of first and second level Irish speaking schools in the country; the total number of students in these schools; and the number as a percentage of the total school going population. [12195/96]

There are 195 all-Irish speaking first-level schools in the country with a total enrolment of 23,073 pupils. This represents 4.8 per cent of the total first-level school going population. There are 33 all-Irish speaking second-level schools in the country with a total enrolment of 6,891 pupils. This represents 1.86 per cent of the total second-level school-going population.
