Vol. 467 No. 2

Written Answers. - Sanction for Temporary Teacher.

Tony Gregory

Question:

132 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to sanction an additional temporary teacher to a school (details supplied) in Dublin 1 to relieve the principal from teaching duties in view of the special circumstances at the school in which the principal is suffering from M.S., one of the teachers is wheelchair bound, half the permanent staff are transferring to other schools and the children are from a most disadvantaged background. [13068/96]

The school in question had an enrolment of 105 pupils on 30 September 1995 and its staffing for the 1996-97 school year will be a principal, three assistants, a disadvantaged concessionary post, a remedial post and a shared home-school liaison post. An administrative principal is appointed to a school only when there are at least eight assistant teachers on the staff. In the circumstances, I regret that I do not intend to sanction an administrative principal to the school.
