Vol. 467 No. 3

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Ivor Callely

Question:

56 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Finance his views on the impact of the Government's decentralisation policy in the Dublin area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13121/96]

While it is clear that the decentralisation programme provides significant benefits to the centres in which offices have been located the effects on Dublin are less clear cut. However, it is clear that decentralisation makes a contribution to reducing congestion and upward pressure on the cost of office and residential accommodation. Furthermore, any reduction in total consumer expenditure is marginal in the context of Dublin and will have been offset in recent years by other economic developments.
