Question:

63 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Finance the way in which the Cohesion Funds in Ireland are monitored; by whom such funds are monitored; and the reports, if any, that have been published in respect of its operation. [13091/96]

Council Regulation (EC) No. 1164/94 which governs the operation of the Cohesion Fund provides for the establishment of committees to monitor the implementation of projects part-financed by the Fund. The Committee for Ireland, which convenes about twice or three times each year, is representative of the European Commission, European Investment Bank, the Departments of Finance, Environment, Marine, Transport, Energy and Communications, Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht and local authorities involved in the implementation of developments being co-financed by the Cohesion Fund.

No reports have been published by the Monitoring Committee for Ireland since the establishment of the fund.
