Vol. 467 No. 4

Written Answers. - Westport (Mayo) Sewage Treatment Works.

Robert Molloy

Question:

143 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the objections to the proposed location of Westport sewage treatment works at Westport House Estate, County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13470/96]

A compulsory purchase order for the acquisition of land for Westport main drainage and waste water disposal scheme was submitted to me for confirmation by Mayo County Council. A public local inquiry into the objections received was held on 28 May 1996 and the report of the inspector who held the inquiry will be completed and submitted to me for consideration as soon as possible. As my role in determining the order is of a quasi-judicial nature, it would not be appropriate to comment at this stage on any of the issues which arise.
