In addition to the above, two senior psychologists are in a supervisory capacity.
Two of the psychologists serving second-level schools work half time in primary schools — one in south Tipperary and one in Dublin.
Two psychologists, including the person serving County Offaly, work on the development of substance abuse education programmes. One senior psychologist is on a career break, one senior psychologist is assigned to the Department's in-career development unit and one psychologist is on assignment to the local area development teams.
The deployment of psychologists in the Department's service is reviewed at the end of each school year and such a review is being carried out at present.
The total number of psychologists in the Department's service is 37, excluding the three on special assignments and career break.
In addition to the above, the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee employs four psychologists for schools in its scheme and County Dublin Vocational Education Committee employs two psychologists for the same purpose.
