Vol. 467 No. 6

Contempt Bill, 1995: Motion to Discharge Order for Second Stage.

To enable me to publish immediately the Organised Crime (Restraint and Disposal of Illicit Assets) Bill, 1996, a Bill to provide for certain powers of the High Court in relation to the restraint and disposal of the suspected proceeds of organised criminal activity, I move:

That, notwithstanding anything in Standing Orders, the order for Second Stage of the Contempt Bill, 1995, be now discharged and that the Bill be withdrawn.

In view of the constructive intention of Deputy O'Donoghue's Bill and the exceptional circumstances in which it is being introduced, there is no objection to its publication. Naturally the Bill will be the subject of detailed examination by the Attorney General and the Department of Justice before any Government decision is made in respect of it.

The Bill as yet unpublished has been presented to the Taoiseach for his attention and the consideration of the Government.

Question put and agreed to.
