Vol. 467 No. 6

Written Answers. - Butter Voucher Scheme.

Joe Walsh

Question:

20 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he has satisfied himself with the implementation of the butter voucher scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10363/96]

The main objective of the EU funded social assistance butter scheme is to encourage the consumption of butter.

About 450,000 persons and their dependants on social assistance payments from the State benefit from the scheme. They receive around 7,500 tonnes of butter at a subsidised rate annually. I am satisfied, therefore, that the main aim of the scheme is being achieved.
