Vol. 467 No. 6

Written Answers. - Forestry Development.

Máirín Quill

Question:

31 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will make adequate provision to protect the environment in his plans for the expansion of forestry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13779/96]

It is a fundamental principle of the forestry programme that forestry development is compatible with the protection of the environment and a number of provisions are already in place in this regard.

The strategic plan for the development of the forestry sector in Ireland, which I will be publishing next week, particularly addresses the matter of forestry development and the environment. This aspect will remain to the fore in the development of the sector.
