Question:

41 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the total value of Ireland's beef industry; the total value of our beef exports; if he will give a breakdown of the location and value of such exports; whether the animals were slaughtered or live when exported; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13737/96]

The information requested is as follows: The total value of the Irish beef industry in 1995 was £1,355 million. The value of Irish beef exports is estimated at £955 million and the value of live exports is estimated at £250 million.

The total number of live animals exported was 368,000.

Beef exports by destination, volume and value are given in the following table.
