Vol. 467 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

86 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Education if she will re-route the school bus travelling to Cashel National School, Glencolmcille, County Donegal to facilitate a family (details supplied) whose children are unable to walk due to medical circumstances. [13824/96]

The family in question resides 1.4 miles from Cashel national school and is, therefore, not eligible for school transport under the terms of the school transport scheme.

My Department's medical adviser has examined this case and has advised that, on the basis of the medical evidence submitted, an extension of service is not warranted in this case.

Accordingly, it would not be open to my Department to reroute the school bus travelling to Cashel national school to accommodate this family.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

87 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Education if she will provide a school bus service for children (details supplied) attending Convoy Joint National School, County Donegal following a review of its application; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13825/96]

I understand that there is already a school transport service in operation to the school in question for all of the children referred to by the Deputy.

An application for an extension of this service has been examined. The children in question are currently availing of an adequate level of service in the context of the general operation of the school transport scheme. Since extra cost would be involved, the provision of an additional service could not be justified.
