Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Kilkenny School.

Liam Aylward

Question:

202 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education the reason a school (details supplied) in County Kilkenny is losing a member of staff from September 1996; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [14069/96]

The staffing of a national school for a particular year is determined by the enrolment of the school on 30 September of the previous year.

The enrolment of the school referred to by the Deputy on 30 September 1995 was 57 pupils which warrants a staffing of a principal and one assistant for the 1996-97 school year. The existing authorised staffing at the school is also a principal and one assistant.

The second assistant's post at the school was suppressed at the end of the 1994-95 school year. The teacher in question was placed on the panel in 1995 and awaits redeployment to another school.
