Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - Ballyfermot (Dublin) College Fee Increase.

Mary Harney

Question:

234 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Education her views on the proposed increase of fees of 41.25 per cent at the College of Music, Ballyfermot, Dublin 10; her views on whether this increase will place an unnecessary burden on the parents of pupils; and the action, if any, she proposes to take to ensure that there is equality in the fees charged for Ballyfermot and other music colleges. [14348/96]

Jim Mitchell

Question:

236 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to a request from the Parents' Association of the College of Music, Ballyfermot, Dublin 10, for a meeting with her to discuss as a matter of urgency the proposed increase in fees which they feel is exorbitant; whether she will agree to meet the parents immediately in view of the fact that new enrolment forms are currently being issued and fees must be paid before the first week of July; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [14360/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 234 and 236 together.

My Department is in consultation with the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee in relation to a range of proposals designed to ensure that the fee increase for the 1996-97 school year is significantly below that initially proposed.
