Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Mary Harney

Question:

286 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Justice the number of gardaí transferred from Blanchardstown Garda station, Dublin 15, in 1996; the reason for these transferrals; the current strength of the Garda force at Blanchardstown Garda station; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [14347/96]

The allocation of Garda personnel to individual areas is the responsibility of the Garda authorities.

They have informed me that during 1996 there have been four permanent transfers out of Blanchardstown Garda station and two permanent transfers into the station. The current Garda strength at the station is 88 members which represents an increase of eight members on the July 1995 strength.

The Garda authorities point out that all transfers of members of the force are effected with the full authority of the Commissioner and are an integral part of policy for the equitable allocation of available gardaí between districts and divisions.
