Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - Student Summer Jobs Scheme.

Joe Walsh

Question:

302 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will reconsider an application for the student summer jobs scheme in respect of a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [13956/96]

The underlying purpose of the scheme is to provide income support for the less well off third level students who are disqualified from receiving unemployment assistance and are unable to obtain summer work.

Priority therefore is being given to enabling the maximum number of eligible students who have no other means of support to participate within the overall financial allocation of £10.2 million for the 1996 scheme.

As the person concerned has completed a course of study at the University College Cork she is not affected by the 1993 exclusion from unemployment assistance.
