Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - Agriculture Committees.

Brendan Smith

Question:

395 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the plans, if any, he has to establish local or regional committees of agriculture on which members of local authorities would be represented; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14367/96]

I have no plans to establish such committees.

Section 17 of the Agriculture (Research, Training and Advice) Act, 1988, authorises Teagasc to establish committees to assist and advise it in relation to the performance of its functions.

It is a matter for the authority of Teagasc to decide the extent to which the establishment of such committees would be of benefit to its work.

I have no plans at present separately to set up any such committees.
