Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - Disadvantaged Area Scheme.

Donal Moynihan

Question:

398 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason that the townland of Cooldrum, Killinardrish in the Cannaway District Electoral Division, County Cork, was not included in the recent extension of disadvantaged areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14385/96]

I have had this matter investigated, and the position is that the townland of Cooldrum exceeded both the Stocking Density limit of one livestock unit per forage hectare and the income limit of 80 per cent of National Average Income.

A number of townlands in Cannaway were designated as disadvantaged, having satisfied all the criteria. However, it was not possible to include Cooldrum in this group as to do so would have caused the group as a whole to exceed one or more of the criteria.
Therefore, it was not possible for the disadvantaged areas appeals panel to recommend the inclusion of Cooldrum in the proposal for designation of disadvantaged areas.
