Question:

37 Mr. D. Wallace asked the Taoiseach the total value of EU grant aid received by his Department during 1995; if he will give a breakdown of this figure by scheme; the total value of grants bestowed by his Department during 1995; the recipient of each such grant valued at £100,000 or greater; and the amount of each grant that is covered by an EU fund. EU receipts totalling 32.6720 MECU at an equivalent of IR£M26.2779 were received in 1995 in respect of the Local Urban and Rural Development Operational Programme. The receipts represent European Regional Development Fund, European Social Fund and the European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund and are credited to the accounts of the implementing agencies for the programme, namely the Departments of Enterprise and Employment, the Environment, my Department and Area Development Management Ltd. The following schedule details the amounts credited.

The only allocations, in excess of £100,000, made directly by my Department were advances totalling £748,000 to ADM Ltd. in respect of the company's administrative costs which are co-funded from the programme's technical assistance budget at an EU aid rate of 75 per cent.

The allocation of grants from funds under the management of the implementing agencies are the direct responsibility of the relevant Departments and ADM. I have no function in this regard.

No EU receipts were received in 1995 in respect of the URBAN Initiative or those elements of the EU Special Support Programme for Peace and Reconciliation for which my Department has responsibility.
