Question:

77 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Health the current position regarding the provision of an old folks home which was approved for Ballinrobe, County Mayo 17 years ago by the Western Health Board. [14028/96]

Limerick East): I propose to take Questions Nos. 76 and 77 together.

As the Deputy will be aware the provision of long stay care for the elderly in Achill and Ballinroble is a matter for the Western Health Board.

The board has carried out a review of the long stay requirements for the elderly in their region. However, before approval can be given to any of the review's recommendations, the board must take into account their overall internal priorities and the capital funding available.
