Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - VHI Cap Removal.

Peadar Clohessy

Question:

92 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Health his views on whether the VHI cap on payments to health boards should be removed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14211/96]

Limerick East): Between 1992 and 1994, my Department centrally negotiated with the VHI Board a level of reimbursement for public health agencies in respect of VHI members. This was appropriate at the time in the light of changes in eligibility arising from the Health (Amendment) Act, 1991. My Department is no longer involved in such arrangements.

Therefore, as the issue raised in the Deputy's question is one for negotiation and agreement between the insurer and the service providers concerned, it is not appropriate for me as the regulator of health insurance here to express views on the matter.
