Vol. 468 No. 1

Written Answers. - Family Law Act, 1995.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

105 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform if he will amend the Family Law Act, 1995, to empower the District Courts and County Registrar to grant exemptions to couples in view of the infrequency of Circuit Court and High Court sittings, in particular in rural areas. [14670/96]

I have no proposals to amend the Family Law Act, 1995 on the lines suggested in this question. However, operation of the Act, which comes into effect on 1 August 1996, will be kept under review.
