Vol. 468 No. 1

Written Answers. - BSE in British Herd.

Michael Ahern

Question:

205 Mr. M. Ahern asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if his Department has a profile of the BSE disease in the pedigree herd in the United Kingdom; his policy in regard to the importation of male and female animals from the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14573/96]

Over 165,000 cases of BSE have been recorded in all herds in the United Kingdom, to date. Details of the numbers in pedigree herds are not available. By virtue of an EU decision, the export of all bovine animals from the United Kingdom has been prohibited since 27 March 1996.
