Vol. 468 No. 1

Written Answers. - EU Veterinary Office Establishment.

Bertie Ahern

Question:

207 Mr. B. Ahern asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if arrangements for the establishment of an EU Veterinary Office in Ireland have been finally agreed; when this office will open; and the number of staff to be employed in the office. [14593/96]

I refer the Deputy to my reply of 27 June to his question on this subject. The formal request to the European Commission referred to in the reply was issued on 28 June.

The construction and fitting out of the office accommodation at Grange is likely to take two years to complete. At present some 40 staff are employed on the functions to be transferred, but it is hoped that this number will be increased in due course.
