Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Food Hygiene Regulations.

Tony Killeen

Question:

163 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Health the current position regarding the categories mentioned in Parliamentary Question No. 111 of 2 July 1996, in respect of which a response was not provided. [15304/96]

The food hygiene regulations require that operators of food businesses providing services to the public be registered with the local health board. I am advised that, at 1 July, 1996, an estimated 699 applications for such registration have not been processed owing to the current industrial action by environmental health officers.

At that date, 25 applications for special restaurant licences, allowing for the sale of alcohol in restaurants, were also unprocessed owning to the dispute.
