Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Twilight Nursing Service.

Mary Wallace

Question:

239 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Health the nature and extent of the twilight nursing service available in each of the health board areas. [15922/96]

Limerick East): A planned twilight nursing service which is run by the majority of health boards operates from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. This service is provided as part of the services for the care of the elderly. In specific circumstances where nursing care is required outside of this age group, arrangements are made to cover such cases. The activities carried out by this service are a mix of technical nursing and procedures aimed at maintaining the activities of daily living. This service is operated by registered general nurses. In areas where there is not a planned twilight service arrangements are in place for public health nurses to provide nursing services, if required, during the hours from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
