Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Coolock (Dublin) Arts and Cultural Centre.

Seán Haughey

Question:

279 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if he will give details in relation to a grant recently allocated to transform Wood-ville House, Coolock, Dublin 5, into a northside Arts and Cultural Centre; if he will give details of other grants recently allocated under this scheme to projects in the postal districts of Dublin 1, 3, 5 and 9; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15131/96]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that I recently decided to approve in principle funding towards the development and extension of a building in Coolock, Woodville House, to provide a north-side arts and cultural centre from funds at my disposal under the Cultural Development Incentive Scheme, which I am administering under the Operational Programme for Tourism 1994-99. Subject to a number of outstanding issues relating to the project being resolved to the satisfaction of my Department, a grant offer, to an absolute maximum of £300,000, will be made to the developers of the project.

I have also recently decided to approve in principle funding towards the development of the old National Ballroom building and the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery in Parnell Square under the CDIS. Again, subject to a number of outstanding issues relating to the project being resolved to the satisfaction of my Department, a grant offer, to an absolute maximum of £500,000, will be made to Dublin Corporation in respect of this project.
