Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Allocation of Whole-Time Teacher.

Noel Treacy

Question:

495 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Education the reason a permanent whole-time teacher has not been made available to a school (details supplied) in County Galway; if her attention has been drawn to the negative attitude being displayed by her Department towards young persons who cannot speak for themselves; if she will treat this case with the utmost compassion and allocate a whole-time permanent teacher to this school and class as a matter of urgency; if so, when; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [15707/96]

On the basis of recommendations from my Department's Psychological Service and having regard to the projected number of students my Department has allocated 0.5 whole-time teacher equivalent to the County Galway Vocational Education Committee to meet the needs of the class in the 1996-97 school year. If the enrolment increases in the future my Department will review the case for the allocation of additional staffing resources for the class.
