Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Family Resource Centre Grant.

Micheál Martin

Question:

738 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he will provide grant assistance to the Family Resource Centre, Mahon, Cork, to facilitate the construction and provision of a new family resource centre in the Mahon area. [15370/96]

The Mahon family resource centre applied for £178,200 under the scheme of grants to voluntary organisations towards the cost of relocating the centre in a new purpose-built building.

Under this scheme grants may be made towards the cost of equipment, premises and other once-off items to a range of voluntary organisations, including community development and area development groups, welfare rights and information groups, mutual suport and self-help bodies and co-ordinating and umbrella organisations working with disadvantaged groups.

The application is currently being assessed and the Mahon family resource centre will be informed as to the outcome of its application in due course. However, the allocation of funds under the scheme of grants to voluntary organisations to the whole southern region is £142,000 for 1996.
