Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Driving Licence Renewals.

Paul Bradford

Question:

311 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that many applications for renewal of provisional driving licences are being refused and applicants are being informed that they will have to wait five years for a new licence; if the regulations can be amended or relaxed in order that applicants who wish to take a driving test can be facilitated; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17175/96]

Joe Walsh

Question:

342 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for the Environment if he will have arrangements made to change Regulation 56 of 1994, Road Traffic Regulations, 1994. [1650/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 311 and 342 together.

My Department is in consultation with the licensing authorities in relation to the application, and effect, of the regulations referred to. I will consider whether there is a need to amend the regulations in the light of these consultations.
