Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - South-west Drainage Scheme.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

332 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment the current position regarding the proposal by Dundalk Urban District Council to implement the south west drainage scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16398/96]

Drainage proposals for the area in question have been submitted to my Department in the context of the Dundalk main drainage scheme. The scheme is being advanced through the construction of a new treatment plant, the upgrading of the existing sewerage collection network, and the provision of a sewerage system in the priority areas of the north-west drainage area. Given the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage programme I cannot say when it may be possible to approve the further planning for the south-west drainage area.
