Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Teacher Employment.

Michael Ring

Question:

384 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education if there is an increase in the number of B.Ed. degree graduates being employed in her Department; and if not, when will this occur as promised. [16210/96]

I should point out to the Deputy that my Department does not employ teachers. Rather, primary teachers are employed by the boards of management of the schools in which they work.

I can confirm to the Deputy that the vast majority of primary teachers entering the profession are B. Ed. degree holders.
