Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Bus Pass.

Michael Ring

Question:

400 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education the reason island children (details supplied) in County Mayo do not receive a school bus pass from their boarding house to school. [16322/96]

The parents of the children to whom the Deputy refers are in receipt of a remote area boarding grant. This grant is payable towards the cost involved in having these pupils reside on the mainland to attend school.

The pupils in question are boarding on the mainland less than three miles from their appropriate post-primary centre. Under the terms of the school transport scheme the most they may be allowed in respect of transport is concessionary fare-paying.
