Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Fifth Freedom Rights.

Tony Killeen

Question:

660 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the fifth freedom rights available to United States carriers servicing Dublin or Shannon airports. [16621/96]

Under the terms of Ireland/US Air Transport Services Agreement, US carriers operating scheduled services between Ireland and the US have unlimited fifth freedom rights at Shannon in respect of any intermediate or beyond points. In respect of Dublin, US carriers have unlimited fifth freedom rights at intermediate points and fifth freedom rights to one point beyond Dublin outside the European Community.

In respect of charter services, fifth freedom rights may be granted to US carriers from time to time on an exceptional basis.
